Orig. rel. 10-27-13, this is the very first episode of Pulp-Pourri Theatre, adapted from a short story by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. which first appeared in the 01/54 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction magazine. In the not-too-distant future, science has eliminated old age and death, but nobody thought ahead to the most important result: where are you going to put all these people who are now living forever?

Re-released as a tribute to the memory of Father Eduardo "Eddie" Garcia, who appears in the role of the Turnkey. Eddie passed away the week of November 14, 2016. Since he was a founding member of the Narada Radio Company, and since this was the only role I could nail such a busy, beloved man down for, we present this program, with all its faults.

Like the title says, this live show was performed and recorded in 1989, staged as a mock radio broadcast to entertain the ladies of "WAVES National", an organization whose members had served or were still serving in the U.S. Navy. This show marks the second time I created an audio performance, and it would be roughly a dozen years before I did it again.

The performers are 26-year-old me and my good friend at the time, John Bayer, who was about the same age, probably. He shared my love of old-time radio and we had a lot of fun putting on this show, playing all of the characters the way radio comedy pioneers Bob & Ray would.

I lost touch with John Bayer after leaving Atlanta, but I hope he finds out about this and gets a chance to listen to it. Likewise, I hope you enjoy the younger version of myself, who was serving in the Navy at the time.

WAVES, by the way, stands for Women's Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service, which goes back to World War I. Nowadays all women serving in the Navy are full-fledged Sailors, serving on combat-ready ships and on submarines.

The comedy sketches in this program were written by Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding, with filler written by me.
