FIBBER McGEE & MOLLY: LOOKING FOR A CHRISTMAS TREE

THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF DECEMBER, we'll be sharing a bunch of Christmas-themed shows, both old and new. We have four new shows coming your way: two OTR remakes, a Christmas story featuring Jake Dimes, Range Detective, and our 2nd Annual Old-Time Radio Essentials Christmas special. But because I enjoy the old stuff just as much as the new stuff, I wanted to share a few choice programs this month for our mutual enjoyment. So next up is this episode of "Fibber McGee & Molly". In this classic OTR comedy, the McGees are on the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree for their home at 79 Wistful Vista. A hilarious romp thru yesteryear! Originally aired 12-21-1943 on NBC Radio, sponsored by Johnson's Wax.

Check the feed regularly this month for more of our holiday-themed shows! You can thank me by listening and enjoying. Season's Greetings!

So first up is this episode of "Duffy's Tavern", an excellent comedy series that ran for nearly 11 years on radio. Archie's guest is Dorothy Shay, a terrific singer who billed herself as "The Park Avenue Hillbillie", and you'll find out why when you listen.

Episode 9 -- "Christmas Show 1950", The Bing Crosby Chesterfield Show

Welcome to Old-Time Radio Essentials, a new podcast wherein a specific episode from a selected OTR series is presented, and then discussed by three co-hosts: Pete Lutz, Jane St. John and Paul Arbisi; to determine whether or not it meets the following criteria:

1. Is it truly representative of that series? (Can anyone point to it and say, "Yes, that is what [NAME OF SERIES] was all about.")

2. Is it an episode worthy of inclusion in any and every OTR aficionado's private collection?

So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our ninth installment (and Pete's selection), this episode of The Bing Crosby Show from 1950. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it!

To comment on how we might improve this podcast, or give suggestions for future discussions, please write to us at f6point3@gmail.com . Put the word "Essentials" in the subject line.

Your feedback means a lot to us! A review at iTunes or at your usual podcatcher would be appreciated.

FIND THIS SHOW PLUS HUNDREDS OF OTHER WONDERFUL AUDIO DRAMAS AT www.mutualaudionetwork.com !

FANS OF 'THE CELLAR'...don't worry, Cadavera will be back soon. Our next number, "Skulls in the Stars" is being guest-produced by my friend John Bell, of the "Bell's in the Batfry" podcast.

But with luck an' if the creek don't rise, our next feature will be a special Jake Dimes, Range Detective Christmas show, "Santa's Stolen Sack". Watch for that before Christmas Day!

Dec 24, 2018

Happy Christmas Eve! As promised, the Narada Radio Co. proudly presents a recording of a recent live performance -- a remake of the 1947 broadcast of "The Lux Radio Theatre: 'It's a Wonderful Life'"! We performed at the Rialto Theater in Aransas Pass, Texas, over two weekends in December 2018, to small, yet appreciative audiences. (Some lines from a 1947 "Camel Screen Players" radio broadcast were added to this production.)

Please do your best to overlook the technical and sound anomalies present in this recording. They couldn't be helped, and couldn't be removed fully in post-production.

As I indicated in yesterday's post, we really had a wonderful year! We created new audio dramas in 2018 for Pulp-Pourri Theatre, for Jake Dimes Range Detective, for Sonic Summerstock, and for 11th Hour Audio, and we brought live audio drama to three venues in South Texas. What will 2019 bring? Tune in and find out!

I'm happy to say that we have received two fantastic reviews at iTunes, so if you get a chance to see them, please do. I agree with their sentiments wholeheartedly, of course. :-) And while you're there, why not leave a review yourself? It takes but a mere pittance of time and you'll feel so goo-ooood afterwards!

Narada Audio Drive-In is no more but both Pulp-Pourri Theatre and Jake Dimes are, so we're re-issuing the first five chapters so you can hear them as standalone eps before we launch the all-new sixth chapter!

Enjoy! "The King's Prerogative", our next Pulp-Pourri Theatre presentation, is still in production but will be released before the end of May. (I hope...)

Thanks for being loyal listeners! Show your love by leaving us a short review at iTunes. We haven't had a new one in several months and could use a little cheering up. ;-)

As I am still working on several projects at once, one of which is the newest episode of Narada Audio Drive-In, I almost forgot to load something for your podcast feed, dear friends! Here is part 2 of our S1 compilation of the special features and fictitious commercials from Pulp-Pourri Theatre!

One of the other projects is an all-new serial planned for release in S5, called "Lola, Queen of the Circus". I am currently working on the edits for Chapter 4, and so far things are looking very exciting! I'm writing now because February is NADSWRIM, the National Audio Drama Script Writing Month. It was during this month two years ago that I wrote "Jake Dimes, Range Detective" (most of it, anyway), and I hope to get quite a bit of this new serial written during February, while still living up to my commitment of bringing you Episode 4 of NADI.

Meantime, enjoy this offering from the past, and look for part 1 of S2's compilation next week!
