You may know already that the Narada Radio Co. has participated in Jack Ward's annual "Sonic Summerstock Playhouse" festival since 2015, and has produced at least one Old-Time Radio remake per year in support of same. We're proud to tell you, though, that both last year and this, we created four remakes each for this very worthy event. Here's our third one, which, like the first two, was performed and recorded live in August 2018, at Harbor Playhouse, Corpus Christi, Texas. It's the Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train". I took the liberty of changing the sponsor from Lux to a sponsor you might be familiar with from Season 3 of Pulp-Pourri Theatre, O-Sha-Lene Motor Fuel. Enjoy!

CAST:

Christian Ferris as GUY HAINES

Pete Lutz as BRUNO ANTONY and THE MINISTER

Katie Loftin as MIRIAM and BESSIE

Diana DeHoyos as ANNE MORTON

Alan Clower as BRUNO'S FATHER

Tamara Merson Wren as BRUNO'S MOTHER

Gene Giggy as SENATOR MORTON

Jackie Ayers as BARBARA

Dana Gonsalves as TURLEY and HAMMOND

Joe Martinez as THE PROFESSOR, THE JUDGE, and THE OLD MAN

Aileen Corpos as MRS. CUNNINGHAM and HENNESSEY

Teddi Giggy as THE VENDOR and OFFICER ADAMS

And Geri Elliff as OFFICER MAC and YOUR HOST

With additional voices by Michele Barnett and Ebony Rose

Your Announcer, Jessica Mathews.

Music was by Dr. Ross Bernhardt.

The O-Sha-Lene performers were Alan Clower, Aileen Corpos, Diana DeHoyos, Geri Elliff, Katie Loftin, and Ebony Rose.

"Do you dare to go down into...THE CELLAR?"

Welcome to Episode six of our continuing horror/suspense anthology series! Our stories are either original, or inspired by, or adapted from pulp fiction and classic literature, but they're guaranteed all-new productions, and no repeats from other series. PLUS we have a very special script-writing competition going on right now! If you scroll down this page a little bit, you'll see all the details. Entries are being accepted now until October 27th. We've gotten some entries so far, and we look forward to more!

And now...we proudly present "The Defense Rests", adapted by our director/producer Pete Lutz, from a 1938 pulp-fiction story by Julius Long. Joanna Sanders is a ruthless defense attorney who will stop at nothing to get her clients acquitted, until one day she suddenly finds herself unable to do a thing in the aftermath of a particular murder.

Episode 6 -- "The Cable Car Case", Candy Matson, YUkon 2-8209

Welcome to Old-Time Radio Essentials, a new podcast wherein a specific episode from a selected OTR series is presented, and then discussed by three co-hosts: Pete Lutz, Jane St. John and Paul Arbisi; to determine whether or not it meets the following criteria:

1. Is it truly representative of that series? (Can anyone point to it and say, "Yes, that is what [NAME OF SERIES] was all about.")

2. Is it an episode worthy of inclusion in any and every OTR aficionado's private collection?

So with this in mind, we three bring you, as our sixth installment (and Jane's choice), this episode of Candy Matson from 1949. We'll introduce the show, play it in its entirety, then discuss it at length. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you enjoy it!
